I remember the days of getting on Facebook and posting something special on my wall, knowing that people would see my post. It was a distant memory, but we can't keep living in the past can we? My name is Jaxx Sessions and I own a contract free record label called Live On Analog Records. In this blog post, I offer some music tips to becoming a better music marketer.

Facebook Is Dead:

A lot of artists are in the beginning stages of discovering the death of Facebook when it comes to relying on it to bring you a bigger fan base. If you didn’t catch my previous blog post on Facebook Visibility, maybe you should read that first to get you up to speed. After the algorithm change in January, everyone has been feeling the effects of a lack of engagement. Don’t feel bad. Everyone is experiencing the same feeling of “Nobody Likes Me Anyone” … That is not the case though…

You are special:

You are a musician with a productive mind, so use it. Don’t rely on anyone but yourself when it comes to being a successful musician. If you want something, you need to develop some short term goals and work towards them.

"The future holds no mercy, but you can change that in any moment. What do you want to accomplish right now?"

Use your website:

If you want to accomplish realistic goals at this moment, then you need to start getting serious. If you are relying on Facebook to be that front, you are heading down the wrong path. Facebook wants you to spend precious money on advertising to a subscriber base you built. "Not fair right?" That’s Facebook’s dream, not yours. If you want to get serious, consider your music career a business. Every business needs a store front that is professional & appeals to a target audience in order to get business. You website is your store front when it comes to your career. Instead of using Facebook direcly, install a Social Plugin on your website. This will allow you to bypass Facebook's algorithm and drive social media traffic directly to your website.

For a good example of a social plugin, vist the music section of my website.

Utilize your time wisely:

Be realistic. We all have our personal lives which is number one of course. Some of us are raising families, juggling relationships & a music career. Try your best to utilize your time working towards your short terms goals.

"Quit messing around on Facebook chasing “Likes & comments. Those will come naturally if you are working smarter, not harder."

Finally, love what you are doing:

This is important when trying to accomplish your goals. Always remember to never forget the reason why you play music. You love it. Don’t let anything or anyone take that away from you. You we’re put in this earth to bring the joy of music to people. Thank you for reading and good luck!
