With an average view count of 3 Billion a day, YouTube is one of the premiere platforms to advertise if you are promoting your music videos. My name is Jaxx Sessions and I own a contract free record label called Live On Analog Records.

Today I will offer 5 tips on successful YouTube marketing. With so many new trends happening in social media, I try to spread my knowledge as a marketer and implement professional strategy when promoting an album. There are many opportunities for an independent artist to gain exposure, but it all comes down to how hard you are willing to work as an artist to meet your goals.

6 Tips for Successful YouTube Marketing

1. Make Interesting Videos – Putting yourself out there is great, but make sure it is interesting and professional. Your potential fans are music listeners so give them the music they want, not the music you want them to hear. You are trying to build a fan base so record a trending song that fits your style. This always gives a great first impression.

2. Record Trending Songs – I’ve spoken to many artists about recording cover songs and it really surprises me how an artist doesn’t feel this is important. We actually it is because people are naturally drawn to a familiar songs. As much as our creative minds would love to take the world by surprise with an original, the chances are very slim. I do have a solution for you here. Every couple weeks a new song emerges. You wonder why you see these YouTubers with millions of subscribers. It’s because they record trending songs that are searched on YouTube. The best resource can be found directly on the billboard website: https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100

3. Record Weekly Videos: I stress the importance a good work ethic. I know we all have separate lives from our music lives, but if you truly believe in your music and want to do this for a living, then you’ll need the necessary knowledge that will help you accomplish your goals. Make it a goal to record at least 4 videos a month. It can be done if you believe in yourself. The average American spends 2-5 hours on their smartphone browsing weekly. I am sure you could squeeze in an hour a week to do this. If I had this knowledge as a younger artist, I probably wouldn’t be typing this blog, but I believe in helping young minds so they don’t make the same mistakes I did as a young, lazy artist.

4. Recording the Video: Nowadays there are so many cool things in technology that it makes it pretty simple to do a professional video. You could use your smartphone even. There are tons of video editing apps that allow you to record, edit and post from your phone. I recommend shooting a video from 4 different angles. I like to record teaser videos under a minute long because it seems to peak the interest of the viewer. Here is an example of a teaser video that I recently shot in HD:

5. Your Video Title & Tags: When you are ready to post your video on YouTube, you’ll want to keep in mind that people are searching certain keywords of trending songs. Make sure that those keywords are in the title. I recommend putting something like: “ARTIST NAME – SONG TITLE – Covered by ARTIST NAME” … The tags are added features that help YouTube rank your video based on people searching. Make sure you tag your video with that song information & what it relates too. Here is an example from our YouTube video editor:

6. YouTube Advertising: When an artist is working hard and has a good amount of new fans coming in from their trending videos, you can now start planning an album release. I think an EP is cool because you’re not throwing too much out there, just testing the waters to see if your songs can trend themselves. Record a music video in HD and get organized to launch a video advertisement. There are many ways to do this and the great thing about it is the ability to choose the demographic of your potential fan. If you are playing music that appeal to a certain age group, you can target them. If you think Brittney Spears fans would love your EP, we can target them. As a Google partner, we are also linked up with YouTube to access over 2 Billion searchers. If you need more info on this subject, don’t hesitate to ask for knowledge.
